Foresight's random questions

Post by Foresight »

You guys know me pretty well by now so you know that I ask random questions which a lot of the time are just out of general interest. So rather than have 100 threads I decided to keep my ramblings in this one.

So questions number 1

Would this thing be streetable? :poke:

Forsight,
forced induction engines are generally very streetable because the cam grinds for those engines are normally done with very little overlap. Generally the engines will idle quite nicely and the power comes from the forced induction rather than having to go silly with cams, revving extremely hard etc.
So at 600hp... yeah I'd say it wold behave ok on the street.

Forsight,
Not sure on the streetablity of the motor but those motors are built T&L engines in the US. RAW Performance is the Australian agent for them.
If you do a search on T&L you will find alot of negative feed back on the delivery time. Most people are happy with the quality just not the service and delivery time from T&L. That said I purchased the 347 TK-3 from RAW Preformance as he had the motor already here in Australia. So just a word of warning if you are looking at purchasing. From memory they want 75% up front then they will ship from US.

Lee, Sean has a similar thing (Blown 5.0 EFI) in his shop. Looks a tough engine.

Was in my shop for a few years & now Sean owns the motor. It will go to our engine guy for checking before we pull the string...

Actually I remember drooling over Sean's one now that you mention it.

I dont know if it makes any difference but when I say streetable I mean as a daily driver.

Anyone know how much a blown efi v8 with some good hp would cost to build?

I had a look hawko but I couldn't even find their website because of all the negative feedback haha

Lee,
I can't see you having much change out of 15-20k for a rebuilt engine and blower package. $5k alone would be for the blower setup.

Yeh they were the sorts of prices I was coming by. Interesting how an edlebrock e-force crate engine is 11-13kusd and 20k aud

Any idea how a package like that would go in terms of reliability?

Depends how you drive it
I'd have no issues recommending something built by edelbrock though.

I think you'd be better off buying it in the US and having it shipped out. Pretty sure it was somewhere around $1k to have one sent out here.

Very true haha

Do you think putting something like that in a 67 would be require to pass emissions testing?

It's depends on your state.
In NSW, as long as it is pre 1976 when ADR 27A brought in pollution requirements, you're normally ok.

However, there was a recent change made where if you put an engine in the car from a later model, it then needed to meet the pollution requirements from that later model car.
