Shipping Parts
Does anyone know of any good people to import parts from the states? Looking to bring in a range of stuff from bulky items like trannies to small bits and pieces.
Cheers, Tony.
Re: Shipping Parts
Stock standard reply, but i usually use what ever carrier the company recommends. That is, providing that I am purchasing from NPD or Summit etc. Not private sale.
Otherwise i see that Bosscraft is upto something. I am also sure that Shermatt can pop stuff in a container for you at a $. Otherwise, talk to the WA boys to see if anyone has anything in the pipeline to ship to Fremantle.
Dynamic on here just bought a whole heap of bulky items (Talking floorpans and cowls etc). And whilst i'll leave it up to him to say the cost; lets just say it was about the same price as the items themselves. That was from NPD. I bought some heavy items from Summit about a month ago. $160 shipping. What i thought was reasonable.
For your Tranny dont just look in America. I am pretty sure that you can get "bulky" ones from the Philippines and Thailand now. VISA's/customs might be an issue but shipping would be less. I have heard that they make less noise under load than your yankee ones due to the installation of non-standard "aftermarket parts". Just a thought. I havent gone down this route as i prefer concourse.

Re: Shipping Parts
Any idea of what shermatt or bosskraft charge for certain items. e.g. engine, gearbox, rims, pallets worth of parts, sheet metal, brake kits.. etc.
Cheers, Tony.

Check out America West and Import Perfections - both based locally here in Perth.

+1 for america west. Only ever paid quoted shipping price.
Others i have tried have not stuck to their quote.
Always pricey but you do get used to that after having a project car...

Re: Shipping Parts
Yeah it depends if it fits onto a pallet/half pallet, then you're better off using someone like lee from import perfections. Cowls and floor pans are a shit to transport but if you are bringing in a bit of gear might be worth to even try get in contact with Ken and see when a container is coming you can sometimes get away with only paying a small fee through him. Also bear in mind the cost of the items because of our good mates at the ATO wanting to slam you with a 10% charge for items over $1000 which I think was inclusive of shipping charges as well, so I can't wait for my order to arriveCameron wrote:

Re: Shipping Parts
Pete, Anything in a container gets GST..
Because the whole container is charged GST.
I'd be interested to see however if that has changed with the recent change to having to have individual consignments listed

Yeah I meant it might be cheaper in terms of shipping if you are moving a lot more gear....in theory. Yeah I would be very interested to see how the changes affect containers now thoughS[_]SPECT wrote:Pete, Anything in a container gets GST..

Re: Shipping Parts
I still have a couple of sets of mags & assorted bits n pieces at Ken's in CA waiting for the next container to leave. I have to contact him to find out when the next one is due.
Birchy .... I'll check into what you said about the whole container attracting GST ..... bloody ATO nazis

Re: Shipping Parts
Yeah, I've only ever shipped in a container when the whole order was over 1K, so I was going to get GST anyway..
However the last lot I brought in, some parts were delayed, so they part shipped..
The two indivdual shipments of mine were below 1K, but since the container as a whole was consigned to Lee, it was included in the whole calculation. My part of which being passed on to me.. and fair enough.
If you're on Lee's emails, you'll see they now bumped the shipping fee to account for the customs changes of requiring individual consignments to be listed.. which begs the question... does shipping a $600 item still attract GST ?

Re: Shipping Parts
maybe thats why my quote changed with them. Lee must have thought they added me to a mailing list, but i am definately not on one... my shipping doubled on my last box of stuff shipped with them...
America west charged me an extra $5 on my quoted order, shipping was 180 to 185, but Import perfections, 100 turned into 200...
and then there was my engine... but thats a whole different story...
