Lunati retro-fit hydraulic roller material

Does anyone happen to know what material these cams are made from?
I'm buggered if I can find any info on them.

Trying to work out which distributor gear we can safely run on them. I don't want to run a bronze gear on the street if I can avoid it. Especially on dads car that won't get looked after all that well.

Lunati sell their "everwear" gears at $70 a pop , but I have also read that some of their cams have an "everwear" gear pressed on them so you can run ANY distributor gear.

Generally you can see the casting between the machined lobes which makes it a SADI (cast iron) core. If it is well machined between the lobes it will be a steel billet core. Most of the retro fits I have seen have been SADI core. Clevos never had a steel core Cam so this also would mean I would expect a SADI core. As an aside, Comp Cams at least tell you the material used in the Part number.

Do you have a photo? What about a part number?



Edit: You have the Cam out - if you ring the cam, e.g., Tap it with a hammer then the ringing sound if different for Cast Iron and Steel Billet - this will also tell you the material being used. As I said I would bet on a SADI core. Hence use the stock distributor gear.

Found an email address for Lunati and they said the distributor gear does not need to be changed - A good reason not to bother with billet cams

I have to think about the least possible maintenance required when it comes to the old boys car.

I am back. There is a place for them. Like for Flat tappet Cams is one example. I do agree - maintenance ease is a worthy goal.

I'm running a Lunati in my cobra jet with standard dist gear. No drama's here
