Top centre of the pic. Look where the sump meets the sandwich plate.

From the heater hose? Correct side for that to be an issue.

OK, Next issue for the week. The clutch I have is a 265 (10.4inch) x 1 1/16inch x 10 splines. It is, as the pictures show, an old three fingered design (at least I think it is old).

Clutch tthat was delivered through the week (from Melb) was indeed the same size but be buggered if I can make the holes lline up and the thrust bearing is completely different.

Any hints on whether you can - here in Down town Oz, get a diaphragm style clutch as a replacement? If so, can you plese quote the kit number.

If it helps, I believe up to 67 C & A codes Ford used one flywheel then 68 on a different one for the 289 and 302s (C & J codes) but still 157 T. The 351s went to 164T and used used another bell housing.

Why not draw the outline of the old plate with measurements centre to centre and fax it off to suppliers in order to identify the required plate in question.
Just a thought.

OK, after the mob in Vic tell me they do not have a kit to fit (but can make one fit if I have the flywheel re drilled-NOT) I gave extreme a call.

The main issue I am having is that the clutch is a 265mm, (10.4inch) diametre whereas most are 255mm or 10inch dia. This I think is another one of those nice little "yeah, it changed after 68 or during 68" probs that pop up now and then (see the radio support for an example).

Anyway, extreme may have a kit and I am off to Canberra Brake and Clutch tomorrow with said clutch, and flywheel.

Interestingly, when I cleaned the gearbox up I found the VIN number stamped on the top should of the box. I knew they started stamping VINs in 1968 but did not know they included the stamping to the gearbox.

Thanks for the lead to Extreme

You can always redrill the flywheel, no big deal. You just put it in a lathe and scribe a new arc, then lay the clutch on it mark the holes, drill and tap.

OK, the size clutch I have is unknown here. Some have a 10inch diaphragm to suit but itis half and inch smaller than the one currently fitted. Tomorrow a kit from Extreme arrives to take a look over.

Any views/thoughts on using a 10inch diaphragm as opposed to the 10.4inch three fingered jobby (can get from Summit on the net).

Shaunp, I am not keen on redrilling the flywheel.

Cheers
Ian

Trust me it's no drama to redrill a flywheel, done it plenty of times. Old jags use a spring long type 10" clutch like mustang, we redrill them and use a 9.5" borg & beck which is lighter, + they come over the shelf from the old vn-vp SS V8 commodores, My E type had this but the pressure plate was a Ferrari same clutch just not a cast centre. Also stepped the E type wheel cause I use a Diahatsu truck driven plate which was a little thinner, to suit the Supra box, so I stepped it 1.5mm to get the clamp correct.
The 10" will fine anyway, It's the clamp pressure that is important.

OK, the kit from xtreme botls up fine- even though it is a 10inc clutch. Like H, I will just have to make do with half and inch shorter all round.
Who would have thought finding a bloody replacement clutch would be soooo much trouble. Will post the kit number when I have it (flywheel is being ground flat).
thanks for the help guys.
