Ok, next question. I have a new Lokar shifter with the threaded rod to the bracket on the C4 selector shaft. Damn thing keeps slipping back so the indents on the shifter are having trouble finding the gears (esp park). I thought I tightened the bracket enough. How much can these be tightened? Can you over tighten the selector arm on the shaft?

here you go

gave it a couple more turns. shaft still moves freely. Not sure if the Lokar indents are slightly different to a 'green dot' C4. See how it goes.
On another note Dono, I will have to get down to Yamba later this month. Been checking the wiring, indicator power is coming from lights and not accessories. They blink fast too. Radio is also hooked up to constant power on both, not constant and accessories. The instrument voltage regulator is missing (probably why the temp gauge was not working properly- disconnected now)

Still need to cover seat and door trims (picked out a cream like the front grill) but out of money for the moment. Got the ABS hood lining from MidFifty that I will fit up when I can get to it. Might get a new steering wheel to, that old one looks ?

Well its been some time since I posted. Not much happening, distracted by work and other sh#t. Went to Lismore show last month and the door kept popping open. New door rubbers and a grooved out striker looked the problem. Ordered a NOS striker and didnt do a thing, ended up being the lock mechanism in the door. removed and tweaked it and door stays closed now. Much safer.
Been thinking about the gauges again and need to know if I'm on the right track. With the fuel cell in the back it has the after market sender (33-240ohms) i guess. Mid fifty sell 56 guages in 12v neg ground with 33-240 range, must be easier than finding a 10-73ohm tube sender. Does it also eliminate the need for a voltage regulator ? Same with the temp gauge, the original one must be 6v but its getting 12v from the harness. Not sure what to do with the idiot light, I have a 1 wire alternator and cant see how the excitor wire hooks up. Got some time off coming up so will get an order into Midfifty then some final bugs worked out. Might get a speedo cable as well :)

live without the alt. lamp. Those 1 wire delco jobbies don't allow for it. Aftermarket gauges will need 12 volt so don't worry about regulator. I can't remember the brand name , but I'm doing a big job on a custom kingswood at work & he got some trick gauges from U.S. The fuel gauge can be calibrated for anysender - speedo is GPS - oil & temp come with their own senders (which is a pain in the arse when trying to fit them to a Gen111 V8 whilst retaining the engines original senders for the ECU - like , who uses M16 threads for temp. senders.......really!!! Anyhting wrong with the old 1/8 gas NPT threads for christs sake!)

Been ages since I did mine, but from memory its not splined.
You're relying solely on friction to keep it in place...
Given the comment on getting it into Park, Im assuming you set it in LOW..

You need to make sure both surfaces are clean and then set the selector with both the trans and shifter in D, (or neutral).. then tighen like a mofo !
The D - 2 shift should be about spot on, if you have to force it into Park or Low, then something aint right.
If you're still having trouble with Park, try setting it in Neutral, but make sure the D - 2 change is not too far off.
Cheers,
Birchy...

Thanks Dono, the gauges from mid fifty fit into the stock dash, solves a few issues. I put new electric temp an oil enders in when I ditched the mechanical set (a cheap summit kit that was in the dash) Ordered a speedo cable to, only $40. With all the road works its more than a 2 1/2 hr trip to your place atm otherwise I'd be there. I've heard those delcos are 'self exciting' whatever that means.

Suspect, thanks for the info. I had tightened the linkage up with both in 'park', i'll give it a go in d-2 to be sure. I think with the flat floor the linkage sits almost level, not sure if that causes binding and slipping, will wait and see.

On another front, with the rear sitting an inch high I have looked at some wider guards and running boards for a good price. Better than trying to find some 7" rear rims ?

Hey Marc , pondering the idea of going for a run to Tullera (just Nth of Lismore) on Sunday for the Tullera Turnout. From 9am.

Got to go Lismore on Saturday, have thought about Tullera if I can get the magazine out. Depends on family duties to. What about Casino on the 23rd ? we are heading out there for the Club Run.
I think i've done the deal for the wider guards. A better option than narrower wheels. I think I will be able to fit 10's under there.

Yeah Dono, they moved the Casino show forward a month. The club is heading there rather than Maclean. The call it the 'Auto Spectacular' this year. Btw, just added the Yamba Rod Run to the calendar for November.
