In Dongguan at the moment.
Came up in a Airport Shuttle van to see how it will all work for the Canton Fair trip. The boys will see the difference to be driven in HK, then swap vans at the border. They will notice the condition of the vehicles deteriorate & the driving skill go down the tube with it......
It will be hot & steamy, feels like 40 degrees C with the humidity, can hardly see for pollution.
Off to Guangzhou today by taxi & hi speed train. However we will be going by van most of the time, easier to move a group around. But again checking things out as to how it can all work as will give us alternatives. Also checking out the latest things we can do of an evening here, some things have changed, most not....

Dongguan hotel is all set up for us including daily car (& driver) hire. Everything we need to do & experience of a night after the fair is close by, most in walking distance.
Banks are close by & the best one (Bank of China) is within a half a K from the hotel. One can pull money from the ATM there or exchange A$ for CNY during business hours.
I will now chase up a translator for most of the trip in China but will also have printed copies (in Chinese & English) of destinations. I did that this trip & it works well.
Just finished checking out the China HK transfers & also the HK hotel. Hotel is very well set up & we visited there yesterday & spoke with the reservation Manager about what we want & expect. All is now ready for the trip including sight seeing side trips.
I have been over here showing our friends (& neighbours) around & working out the logistics of moving a group around. HK is easy & although I know China (Dongguan & Guangzhou) a little better than HK, those cities are a little more difficult to get around. The wider use of English in HK helps a lot.
I just bought a Samsung Galaxy S2 android. Magic bit of gear that will probably also replace my Acer notebook as it does everything, including GPS. Now learning to use it & see what it can do. It will be my world phone with all my numbers, just replacing the SIM to the country I am in. Bit less weight to carry.....

Been online & have hooked up with a few Ex-pats we will meet in DG
The guy in the vids posted below, hangs out at the "One For The Road", an English pub just a block down from our hotel.

I have organised a few others that we will meet as well as hooking up with someone that can translate for us if necessary.
Bit corny, but shows you all what Dongguan is like.....

Some more on the fair.....
I will be doing this again in April & October next year, so after you all see & hear of our experiences up in China, I hope you will consider to attend the next one.

+ cat naps on the flight.....soc123_au wrote:2 more sleeps.
We have a big day when we land & after the trip up to Dongguan, we then go to Houjie (near DG) to get our credentials for the fair. That will eliminate a long lineup the next day at the opening in Guangzhou.
After that morning run around, we can do some sightseeing, relaxing & then get to the pub. Foot massage later that night....

I must admit the fair is impressive. Have a good trip.
I will someday think of something clever to say.

That was NOT a foot massage place he was in, actually far from it & his ass needs kicking for being in that place without the stuff he had. That is a whorehouse he was in & IMO, serves him right.scedd wrote:Your OK, you arent a 14 yo boy anymore!!ozbilt wrote:Definitely no worries in China.
